FLOOD RELIEF UPDATE - NHF 22/10/09
its 7th Relief batch to Mahboobnagar and Kurnool flood affected areas.
It is 21 days from the disaster that these areas had to meet and the
life in Kurnool Town is far from getting back to normal. Every road is
still filled with a lot of dirt, Kurnool Town still stinks, every
house is still busy cleaning and trying to find what can still be used
and there are already heaps of matress, clothes, food material, furniture etc dumped in the streets. Muncipal tankers are watering the roads
frequently to avoid the dirt flying in the air on roads and causing
more health problems and driving inconvenience.
We distributed 3 KGs rice, 1 oil packet, packets of salt, haldi, chilli poder, 200gms pickle & 200 gms tuar dal, saree, trousers and shirts, one plastic mat, blanket and biscuits. This time it was a little more difficult for us to see the impact of the devastation in the eyes of
especially the educated middle class families. These people might have
never extended their hand for anything like this, but we could see it
very clearly in their eyes the helplessness to take the relief material. It was very difficult for the NHF volutneers to contain ourselves some were almost in tears. There were hundreds outside the designated area still waiting for the material as there are thousands of more areas within Kurnool town which are still left out by all considering it is a Town there things are alright, but the fact is they are in more misery as most of them are middle class they have always lived on their survival and never extended their arms to take such support. It is very difficult for them to come out and ask or take things that relief teams are giving.
We wish society turn more rational and take measures to avoid such
mishap in the future. NHF extend every possible support what ever from
our end to reach out the maximum even in the coming days.
Continue sending your generous contributions to support the lives in
Kurnool and Mahboobnagar to what ever extent we can.

NHF RELIEF PHOTOS
This is the fourth day of relief activity from NHF. With the support of the local people, sympathizers and our volunteers we have successfully distributed the most required food, water, blankets, used clothes, bread and biscuits in 6 villages of Mahboob Nagar and Kurnool districts.
The distribution started with the village Govardhana Giri and continued through Budda Basavapuram, Ayyavari Palli, Palle Padu, Chinna Goda and Pulluru.
We have distributed over 50,000 water packets, 10,000 Lemon Rice packets, 8000 Biscuit Packets, 5000 buns and breads, 700 blankets, and heaps of clothes. The worst we have served in Mahboob Nagar dist was Budda Basavarapuram the entire village is still submerged in about 10 ft water and Ayyavari Palli where the road route is washed away and about 15 – 20 Ft water has taken its place.
In Pulluru (Kurnool Dist) where we started relief yesterday was a real night mare. The entire village stinks with the decaying smell of animals. They have nothing except their lives, every thing else is washed away. There is over 2 ft mud that has filled the roads, homes, hospitals and every where. The entire ground floors were submerged for more than 2 days in the dirty flood water making it close to impossible to live in them or use any of their equipment to continue living. NHF team was the first to reach Pulluru with any aid, no one has visited them till now.
We will need your maximum help to get their life and many others life in Kurnool dist back to normal.
The immediate requirement is to provide them with:
1. Blankets
2. Bed sheets
3. Buckets
4. Mugs
5. Rice
6. Dal
7. Mats to sleep
8. Plates to eat and
9. Utensils to cook.
In the next phase we will continue our support for the children there as all their books and other stationery is washed away or spoiled with the flood water.
We will keep you posted with all the updates as and when possible. We expect this will take another 5 - 10 days to start falling in line. Normalcy is a long process for them now.
